Morgan crowned 'King of Kansas City'
RACINBOYS EXCLUSIVE by Ray Cunningham (Grain Valley, MO) -- Friday night at Valley Speedway Chris Morgan won the King of Kansas City 50 lapper at the Missouri Facility for the POWRi Valley Outlaw Sprint Cars. For the veteran driver from Topeka, Kansas, it was his second victory of the season, but his first at the Grain Valley Dirt Track featuring a 50 lap main event broken up by a competition yellow after 25 laps. After the first segment of the race Morgan sat in 4th place behind Leader Jack Wagner, Quinton Benson, and Chris Parkinson.

After a few adjustments during the break that would allow tire rotation, and fuel, but not changing tires out, Morgan started to make his move to the front riding the rim around a tricky track that almost the entire field decided was better attacked at the bottom. Morgan fought his way past Parkinson, and Benson, and then took away the lead from Wagner driving the Hockett Racing #77. Meanwhile Benson would also pass Wagner and would counter Morgan’s ripping the lip with his cat fishing at the bottom.
For several laps the two combatants would exchange the lead with Morgan high and Benson low, as the race entered its final stages. With a couple laps to go Benson went high to slide past Morgan but instead lost ground coming out of four giving Morgan a couple car lengths of breathing room. However, a spin on the last lap led to restart, and a green, white, checker, finish with Morgan and Benson drag racing to the line in a run decided by a little over a nose.
For the driver from the Capitol City, Morgan would win $1,000 dollars, and a King of Kansas City trophy that stood over 5 feet tall. Benson, the 2018 POWRi WAR runner up would come home in second in his 15b machine. While Brian Beebe fought his way from 19th to 3rd, and defending WAR Champ Riley Kreisel would ride the rim as well to a 4th place run, with early Leader Wagner rounding out the top 5. 23 cars were on hand for the King of KC showdown, while Chris Parkinson, Wesley Smith, and Wagner would take the heat races at the Grain Valley Dirt Track.
