Grain Valley MO - The Grain Valley, MO City Council will consider a request for a Special Use Permit from Valley Speedway owner Dennis Shrout to continue the operation of Grain Valley Speedway at their regular meeting on Monday, March 9th, 2015 at 7:00PM.

Local Drivers and Race fans, including 17 year old Tyler Nelson of Olathe, KS plan to attend the meeting and express their support for the track that Shrout has operated since 2003. Nelson has been a favorite local driver at the Valley Speedway track since 2011. According to Nelson, “Valley Speedway is more than just a place to race one night a week. Mr. Shrout and the Valley Speedway Community have been very supportive of my career and my Mission of working with at-risk youth as an Official Spokesperson for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Kansas City.” “Having spent my early years in a home where my parent’s struggled with addiction, I relate to kids in similar situations and try to be an example of how people can turn negatives into positive by having goals.”

Tyler frequently use the Valley Speedway track to mentor local Club Members and to raise money for charitable efforts like backpack drives and visits to the elderly in Grain Valley through the 501c3 foundation that Tyler started when he was 15 years old. KCKidsOnTrack.net

The City has cited “noise complaints” from residents as the reason for their concern. Grain Valley Speedway draws hundreds of fans one night a week to the community just east of Kansas City on I-70.

According to Shrout, the Permit requires that the sound level be kept to 65 Decibels at the property line, but has expressed concern about how that number was determined. According to Shrout, “We are proud of the part we play in the community and any role that we have played in strengthening families or encouraging young people like Tyler Nelson.” “We hope that we can continue that role.”
